Dermal Fillers & Bio-Stimulators

Dermal Fillers & Bio-Stimulators

As we age, one of the natural effects is the loss and breakdown of collagen. Collagen is what gives skin its youthful, supple appearance. As our natural collagen diminishes because of aging, we experience the appearance of wrinkles and a loss of facial volume.

Dermal fillers or bio-stimulators are both excellent options to rejuvenate and boost the appearance of your skin.

Our professionals at Vibrant Med Spa employ the best practices in every treatment plan to ensure you love the skin you’re in. We also use well-tested products that produce consistent results.

What Dermal Fillers do you use?

A common list of fillers we use are:

  • RHA® Collection
  • Radiesse®
  • Restylane®
  • Contour ®
  • Eyelight®
  • Kysse®
  • Lyft®
  • Refyne®
  • Sculptra® (a bio-stimulator)

How does it work?

A dermal filler or bio-stimulator treatment involves a gel-like substance injected into targeted areas with a cannula or needle. Fillers plump the skin from within and work in place of lost fat and proteins to smooth fine lines and volumize hollow areas.

Different types of dermal filler ingredients include:

  • Calcium hydroxyapatite
  • Poly-L-lactic acid
  • Hyaluronic acid

Sculptra® is a bio-stimulator that stimulates collagen production which then reduces fine lines and yields a fresh, more youthful appearance. Most people need two treatments scheduled two months apart.

For recommendations, we encourage booking a complimentary consultation.

What are some common treatment areas?

  • Cheeks
  • Nasolabial folds aka smile lines
  • Chin or nose
  • Crow’s feet
  • Hollowing temples
  • Lips
  • Marionette lines
  • Tear troughs
  • Under eye
  • Reduce appearance of scars
  • Back of hands

Is it safe?

Yes, we only use injectables approved or cleared by the FDA made from materials that the body eventually breaks down and absorbs. These treatments are safe and effective for most people when administered by a reputable injector.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Filler or Sculptra injections last about 45 minutes at our Round Rock med spa.

When you arrive at your appointment, we will:

  1. Take photos before your treatment for our records.
  2. Apply numbing cream.
  3. Cleanse the skin and make injections into the appropriate areas. A light massage and manipulation may be performed to mold the filler and move it to the desired area.
  4. Apply a cool pack that you’ll take home.

What should I know before my first appointment?

The Texas Medical Board requires an annual “good faith exam” (aka medical clearance) to be completed by a nurse practitioner or doctor before receiving cosmetic injections. We’ll check our records when you book the appointment and schedule a free, virtual clearance if a current clearance isn’t on file.

With all injections there is the potential for swelling and/or bruising, so consider scheduling treatments around special events.

What results can I expect?

With dermal fillers you’ll notice an immediate difference in your appearance. Factors such as the treatment area, post-injection swelling, and type of filler used influence how long it takes to see the final results. It takes 2-4 weeks for the filler to settle in, so evaluating your results at the one-month mark is best.

For Sculptra, final results are typically seen one month after the second monthly treatment.

How long your filler lasts varies and primarily influenced by the dermal filler ingredients. Some fillers can last as little as six months while others may last a year or more. Sculptra results can last a couple years or more with annual maintenance injections.

Over time, your body will gradually metabolize your dermal filler. Most clients choose to schedule their next treatment once residual lines begin to occur and fullness lessens, but before they return to their original state.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • Clients should not schedule any invasive procedures for 2 weeks before or after treatment with Fillers.
  • It is recommended to discontinue the use of Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising or bleeding. Please consult with your primary physician prior to discontinuing any medications.
  • If you have a history of Herpes Simplex, please ask us to prescribe an antiviral medication when scheduling. This should be taken the day before, the day of, and a day after your procedure. If you are experiencing an active outbreak in the area to be treated, please reschedule as we will be unable to perform your procedure.
  • If you develop a cold sore, blemish, rash, etc. in the area to be treated prior to your appointment, we recommend that you please reschedule your appointment until it resolves.
  • Due to the body’s inflammatory response to Covid-19 and other viruses, we ask that you postpone your procedure 2 weeks after being symptom-free. This helps minimize post-procedure inflammatory responses your body may experience.
  • It is recommended to discontinue Retin-A 2-3 days before treatment to avoid any increased redness and irritation.
  • It is recommended that you wait at least 2 weeks to have filler treatments performed if you have previously had cosmetic treatments with laser, ultrasound, peels, facials, or microdermabrasion.

Post Procedure Instructions

  • Do Not touch, press, rub, or manipulate the area where the filler was inserted for 6 hours after treatment. This can cause irritation, sores, and/or possible scarring.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise, sun, and heat exposure for 3 days after treatment.
  • Avoid submerging the head underwater for a full 24 hours after treatment; this includes pools, beaches, bathtubs, hot tubs, etc.
  • Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week after treatment. These items may increase bleeding and bruising.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high-sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours after your treatment. These items may contribute to increased swelling or irritation.
  • Avoid the use of Retin-A or similar products (ex. Kinerase, Tazorac) 2 days after treatment to avoid increased irritation or redness.
  • Avoid cosmetic treatments such as laser, ultrasound, peels, facials, or microdermabrasion for 2 weeks after treatment.
  • Try to avoid wearing makeup or lipstick until the day after treatment. Earlier use may cause pustules. If you must wear makeup, we recommend high-quality mineral makeup for the face or Aquaphor ointment for the lips.
  • Please report to your provider immediately if you have increased pain, swelling, redness, blisters, or itching following your treatment.
  • Ice the treated areas for the next 24 hours. Place the ice pack on the area for 20 minutes and remove the ice pack for 20 minutes. Continue this pattern for 24 hours.
  • Please remember one side may heal faster than the other side.
